Whisky raid

Very kind colleagues with whom I worked until February bought me a voucher for the Isle of Skye distillery company as a leaving gift. These people have a dinky shop in Portree where they sell their own gin, and various local whiskies. There are, I believe, two distilleries on this island: one at Talisker on the west coast, and the Torabhaig distillery near Teangue in the south of the island. Plus the excellent whisky from Raasay, the smaller island to the east where I also care for a congregation.

I know already that I like Talisker, so I bought a bottle of Torabhaig with the voucher. And made up to the full amount by adding a range from the Isle of Skye brewing company. They are based in Uig, on the Trotternish peninsula up at the north end of the island. (That is also the ferry port from which one departs to fabled destinations like Harris or North Uist.) Thank you Dagmar, Suzanne, Grazyna and Jo!

I walked back through Portree in my dog collar, carrying clinking bags. I suspect that perhaps not everyone here thinks this is how a Minister should behave. Thank God for making us various and strange…
